Happy Birthday to Megan

Somewhere along the line, birthdays become less and less important. Why is that? As we get older, do we become embarrassed by how long we've been in the world? Do we simply become less fun? Or are we just supposed to downplay our 'special day' because we should be more mature than expecting the world to revolve around us (for a change) once a year? I think it's the third option. I believe my exact words, less than two months ago were "Oh, it's just another day. We don't need to do anything." Even if I partially believed that when I first said it, I definitely didn't mean it on my actual birthday. I wanted someone to make a big fuss over me, have my boss tell me to leave work early, have everyone wish me a happy birthday (without my having to remind them it's my birthday), and receive dozens of phone calls from old friends who thought of me that day. And maybe, just a little bit, I wanted to wear a tiara.

Happy 23rd, Meggs!
