advent-ish

My mom has a felt Santa advent decoration that we used every year growing up. A few years ago, she made one for each of her children so we could carry on the tradition. I am trying to fill up each pocket with something Matt and I can do together every day leading up to Christmas. I've come up with a few ideas but am drawing a blank on the rest.

Here are my ideas:

  • make paper snowflakes
  • decorate our house
  • make hot chocolate and watch a Christmas movie
  • drive around to look at Christmas lights
  • buy and hang mistletoe
  • write and send Christmas cards to relatives
  • make Christmas treats to share

What else can we do? Do you have any family traditions you can share?

What about:
1. Go to a white elephant party.
2. Do a service project for someone.
3. Have some friends over for some games.
4. Read some Christmas Stories.

To be continued...

Hey! Here are some of our ideas:

1. Donate $ to the USO so troops can call home for free.
2. Volunteer at a homeless shelter.
3. Go shopping for Toys for Tots or something like it.
4. Go visit Santa (and take pictures so we can see!!)
5. Go on a sleigh ride in the city
6. do 12 Days of Christmas to a neighbor you don't know
7. try making your own nativity scene
8. visit the Fords in Utah!!!!!!!!

Hope that helps!

Nate and I volunteer at the Food Bank and the Salvation Army every holiday -- awesome experience. I think you also have to include taking a young child to a toy store or to visit Santa, just to see the expressions on their faces! You could order a pizza and call Grandma Zola to commemerate the Schlerf Family Christmas Eve tradition (not necessarily on Christmas Eve)! Deliver a "Christmas Jar" (Do you guys have one?)
