Since my 'roll call' post elicited an overwhelming, I don't know, FOUR responses, I thought I would turn to all of you for help on something. My Texas reception is this Saturday. Since I will have been married for four weeks by that time, it's really more of a party than the normal reception. Matt and I figured we'd both be a bit more aware of our actual surroundings and thus want to make it a fun event. With dancing. Herein lies the problem. I want it to be fun, with both slow and fast songs, but I don't want it to turn into a cliche or, worse, a church dance. Since the reception is in a barn, 'Footloose' has been requested multiple times, I guess because a barn is close enough to a mill that you can finally bust out those Kevin Bacon moves you've been practicing. One song down, lots more to go.
So come on. Don't be shy. Help me pick out good wedding music. What songs do you think we should play? Which ones should we stay away from?

Hmm... I will go through my most recent playlists but I would stay definitely steer away from the chicken dance please!! So excited to see you!!
You know, you should have your friends and family make some party music lists and bring them on mp3 players/iPods.
At my brother's wedding in August, the DJ was fine, but the party really got cranking when I surrendered my iPod. People could go up and select songs or playlists that they liked. It ended up being really fun. There were some decade themed mixes, some party, dance, hip-hop, and it would fit with a more casual reception that it sounds like you're going for.
You should definitely play Dancing Queen by Abba! And anything by Justin Timberlake is great dancing music.
Do not play The Electric Slide or any other song that may result in line dancing.
I agree, no line dances, but some good ol' country two steppin would be fun!
Okay, so no line dancing and no chicken dance. Check. Azucar, I had thought about a DJ but then decided I would much rather come up with playlists on my iPod, which is what I'm trying to do. I wanted to have a few different options for Saturday night to keep the party hoppin'.
I'm actually really nervous the dancing portion isn't going to go over well, so any specific suggestions would be helpful!
I just emailed you an amazing list. Man alive, I never cease to amaze.
How was it?
